ROOFTOP NATURE RESERVE
Febuary 2022 - April 2022
Individual Project
Individual Project
Rotterdam alone has 18 square kilometers of flat rooftops. These unused potiential spaces can be a solution to the overcrowding and lack of space in modern cities. Through my design for a nature reserve in the centre of the city, urban dwellers can be reunited with the wilderness.
Inspired by an archetypical mounatintop, the main strucutre allows visitors to climb to new heights and see the urban landscape through a new perspective. A seperatley accessed urban campsite provides a night to remember. Raised walkways allow nature to grow untamed and untouched.

︎︎︎ Urban Campsite
Featuring six balconies on a serpereate second level, campers can bring their tents to fall asleep surrounded by the skyline.
︎︎︎ Nature Reserve
No foot will be stepping on the actual rooftop through a series of raised walkways which allows nature to grow untamed. Two floors allow the public to find a calm place to sit and observe the cityscape.
︎︎︎ Bijenkorf
Accessed by the neighboring parking lot, the rooftop holds no connection to the Bijenkorf department store below. Contrasting the hustle of the shopping streets surrounding the building.
